A logbook is a record of moments: the squall off the headland, the night the phosphorescence lit the wake, the morning you ghosted into harbour on the last of the tide. But a season is also made of numbers, and at some point — usually over a winter chart, a glass of something warm to hand — you want them. How far did we actually sail? How many passages? Which was the longest?

Until now SailorsLog held those numbers but never tallied them. In v1.5, it does.

Four numbers, not a dashboard

There is a small chart icon next to the settings gear. Tap it and you get a Statistics screen with exactly four figures:

Total distance sailed, across every entry in your logbook.
Total engine hours, summed from your passages.
Number of passages you’ve logged.
Your longest passage, by distance — with its duration shown alongside.

That’s deliberately all. No charts, no trend lines, no graphs that turn your sailing into a quarterly report. We kept the screen understated on purpose..

All time, or just this year

A single toggle switches the whole screen between All Time and This Year. The all-time view is the story of your boat; the this-year view is the story of your season. Same four numbers, re-counted over the dates you’ve chosen — useful when the question is “what did this summer come to” rather than “what have we done since we launched.”

Engine hours, worked out for you

SailorsLog has always let you note engine hours on a passage. v1.5 makes them easier to keep honest. On the entry editor you’ll find two new fields: your engine hour-meter reading at the start of the passage, and at the end. Enter both and SailorsLog works out the running time for you — end minus start, no mental arithmetic at the dock when your tired after an overnight passage.

You’re never locked into that, though. If you’d rather just type the hours directly — for a quick entry, or an old passage where you only remember the total — you still can, and your number wins. The counters are a help, not a requirement.

A quiet reminder when a service is due

If you keep your engine hours, SailorsLog can keep an eye on your service schedule. In Settings, under Engine Maintenance, set a service interval — say every 200 hours. From then on you’ll see a running “hours since last service · hours to go” readout, and when you go past the interval, a gentle service due banner appears on the Statistics screen. When you’ve done the work, tap Mark as Serviced and the count starts again from where you are. This is an in-app reminder only. No push notifications.

Open SailorsLog, tap the chart icon, and see your season in numbers. If you’ve been logging engine hours, set yourself a service interval while you’re there — your future self, the one wondering when the oil was last changed, will thank you.
